Course objectives

The course, divided into 2 indivisible modules, aims to illustrate the characteristics and methods of use of Latin corpora and the digital approach to research and teaching the discipline.

Il corso, diviso in 2 moduli indivisibili, ha l'obiettivo di illustrare le caratteristiche e le modalità d'uso dei corpora latini e dell'approccio digitale alla ricerca e all'insegnamento della disciplina.

Course delivery

The teaching takes place in the presence, with the constant invitation to the participation of students and does not forecast the recording of the lessons and the streaming. Those who will not be able to attend read the instructions contained in the Program section.

L’insegnamento si svolge in presenza, con il costante invito alla partecipazione degli studenti e non prevede la registrazione delle lezioni né la trasmissione in streaming. Coloro che non potranno frequentare leggano le istruzioni contenute nella sezione Programma.

Learning assessment methods

The oral exam for attending people (24 hours on 36) will focus on:

A. the topics of the lessons with translation, analysis and commentary of all the passages examined, including those of the slides;

B. reading of two of the essays included in the bibliography

C. History of Latin literature as indicated. For 6 CFU from the origins to Titus Livius. The suiggested (minimal) book is G. GARBARINO, L. PASQUARIELLO, Vivamus, Turin, Paravia, 2016 or equivalent high school volume with anthology. In this case, the volume must be checked by the teacher. For the late antiquity part, we invite you to integrate with F. GASTI, Profilo storico della letteratura tardolatina, available online at http:// archive.paviauniversitypress.it/didattica/gasti_lett-tardolatina-2013/gasti_profilo_2013.pdf

If some students have already prepared the history of Latin literature in the BA or in another MA, they will agree with professors on a replacement program for this part

Non-attending students will add the metric reading and the translation of Horace, Epistles I, 7-12.

D. Discussion of the little reaerch project.

A brief history of Digital Latin
Two fields of application of Digital Latin: Digital Latin Teaching and Digital Rhetoric,
Students will be encouraged to create a little research project concerning the application of DH to Latin;
the project should include the comprehension and the translation of Latin texts.

Due campi di applicazione del Latino digitale: Didattica digitale del Latino e Retorica digitale.

Gli studenti saranno invitati a creare un progetto di ricerca o di insegnamento di latino digitale che sarà presentato in sede di esame e che conterrà la comprensione e la traduzione di testi latini.
