Course objectives
The course is divided into three modules. The first module will cover early Italian literature (Prof. R. Galbiati); the second module will address literature from the Renaissance to early modernity, as well as explore issues related to the transcription and coding of texts and the spatial representation of literary places (Prof. E. Mattioda); the third module focuses on modern and contemporary Italian literature, delving into key themes of digital humanities such as the difference between digitized literature and digital literature, concluding with reflections on the "revolution" of digital criticism (Prof. R. Palumbo Mosca).
The course aims to provide an overview of Italian literature and encourage reflection on the state of Digital Humanities. Additionally, the course will present several digital projects dedicated to Italian authors (particularly Dante, Petrarch, and Leopardi) that have been developed in recent years.
ll corso è diviso in tre moduli. Nel primo si affronterà la letteratura italiana delle origini (Prof. R. Galbiati); nel secondo si affronterà la letteratura dal rinascimento alla prima modernità e affronterà anche alcuni problemi della trascrizione e della codifica dei testi, oltre che della rappresentazione spaziale dei luoghi letterari (prof. E, Mattioda); il terzo modulo si sofferma sulla letteratura italiana moderna e contemporanea e affronterà alcuni temi-chiave delle digital humanities quali la differenza tra letteratura digitalizzata e letteratura digitale per infine riflettere sulla “rivoluzione” della critica digitale (prof R. Palumbo Mosca).
Inoltre, il corso presenterà alcuni progetti digitali dedicati ad autori italiani (in particolare a Dante, Petrarca e Leopardi), che sono stati realizzati negli ultimi anni.

Results of learning outcomes
The course aims to produce students' critical attitudes toward databases, digital libraries and digital criticism. Well-directed use of data can lead to innovations in the study of Italian literary history and help create portals where spatiality, history, art, and literary texts produce knowledge.
Il corso vuole produrre un atteggiamento critico degli studenti verso le banche dati, le librerie digitali e la critica digitale. Un utilizzo ben indirizzato dei dati può portare a novità nello studio della storia letteraria italiana e aiutare a creare dei portali dove spazialità, storia, arte e testi letterari producono conoscenza.

Program
Lectures will address Italian literature from the origins to today and will dscuss issues related to the use of digital libraries for stylometric research. Criticism of such methods will concern their application to the historical and geographical realities of ancient Italian states. Such a spatially based approach may change the concept of national literary history. We will deal with some historical-political achievements in the literary history of the ancient Italian states and in postunitary Italy.
Le lezioni affronteranno la letteratura italiana dalle origini ad oggi e si soffermeranno su problematiche relative all’uso delle librerie digitali per ricerche stilometriche. La critica a tali metodi riguarderà l’applicazione alle realtà storiche e geografiche degli antichi stati italiani. Un tale approccio fondato sulla spazialità può modificare il concetto di storia letteraria nazionale. Affronteremo alcune realizzazioni storico politiche nella storia della letteratura degli antichi stati italiani e nell’Italia postunitaria.

This course consists of 36 hours (6CFU). The module will be delivered in presence; supplementary materials will be eventually uploaded on the “Materiale didattico” folder or on the Moodle platform.
