Course objectives
The module will describe the different applications of IT to philological and linguistic data concerning ancient and medieval germanic languages. In the module will be provided the basic skills, which will can give to students the basis to critically analyse and compare some significant digital resources concerning germanic languages in diachrony or on a philological and linguistic basis.
Il modulo vuole fornire una breve introduzione all'applicazione delle tecnologie informatiche alla filologia e alla storia della cultura di ambito germanico. Studenti e studentesse avranno la possibilità di analizzare in modo critico e comparato differenti risorse digitali di area germanica, con taglio filologico o linguistico, e valutarne i differenti usi in chiave storica e contrastiva.

Results of learning outcomes
Knowledge and understanding:
Students will have access to the basis useful to value the uses of linguistic and textual data made by some significant digital resources of the germanic area. Students will be able to verify the impact of the application of the digital development to humanities, in the context of conservation and valorization of lingustic and textual data.Applying knowledge and understanding, independent judgement:
Students will develop a more critical approach to digital resources not only of the germanic area, and also to value under a personal point of observation the different usages which can be done of linguistic and philological products.Communication skills:
Students will acquire the basic therminology of DH, and will be also able to discuss the application of digital instruments to textual and linguistic data, with different levels of complexity.Learning skills:
Students will have to acquire a basic knowledge of the secondary literature concernig the digital as a way to give access to a wide range of contents, and the application of digital techologies to humanities. They will have also to acquire a basic knowledge of the secondary literature concerning textual and linguistic digital data, and they will have also to be able to create personal and critical schemas of evaluation of digital resources.Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione:
Studenti e studentesse avranno accesso alle basi metodologiche utili a giudicare la struttura e i differenti approcci desumibili da alcune iniziative di ambito germanico. Studenti e studentesse potranno valutare l'importanza dell'applicazione del digitale alla conservazione e all'uso del dato, complesso o semplice, e la sua crescente pregnanza nell'ambito della valorizzazione del patrimonio linguistico e del suo studio.
Autonomia di giudizio:
Studenti e studentesse saranno in grado di approcciarsi in modo consapevole alle risorse digitali concernenti le lingue germaniche storiche, e saranno in grado di valutare secondo approcci personali i differenti tipi di utilizzo che è possibile fare di ciascuna risorsa.
Capacità comunicative:
Studentesse e studenti acquisiranno il linguaggio di base delle DH, e sapranno discutere e argomentare in merito alla loro applicazione al dato testuale e filologico, secondo vari livelli di dettaglio e di complessità.
Capacità di apprendimento:
Gli studenti e le studentesse dovranno acquisire familiarità con la letteratura specialistica e con le basi teoriche dell'archiviazione o dell'uso del dato linguistico e testuale in ambito digitale. Studentesse e studenti dovranno poi dimostrare capacità di costruire percorsi di studio e di analisi personali sulle tematiche trattate.- Oggetto:
Program
The module will describe some resources concerning ancient and medieval germanic languages, with a focus on the projects which give access to textual and linguistic data of the Old English and Middle English periods. The module will introduce some resources characterised by a highly defined philological and linguistic approach as Electronic Beowulf, Caedmon's Hymn and Menota, and will give also access to projects which permit a deep linguistic usage of data, as Helsinki Corpus of PROIEL. Some lessons will be devoted to a collaborative discussion of the different kinds of reuse of data done in the context of initiatives as Middle English Compendium.
Il modulo darà una descrizione di alcune delle risorse inerenti le lingue germaniche antiche e medievali, con un attenzione specifica verso quelle che descrivono con approccio linguistico e filologico la lingua inglese antica e media. Il modulo presenterà alcune risorse di archiviazione e gestione del dato testuale in prospettiva filologica e linguistico testuale del taglio di Electronic Beowulf, Inno di Caedmon e Menota, e alcuni archivi di tipo linguistico (Helsinki Corpus, PROIEL). Una parte delle lezioni saranno dedicate all'approfondimento del riuso del dato fatto in queste iniziative, e in quelle di tipo lessicografico dell'inglese medio, con il progetto Middle English Compendium e lo sfruttamento del dato nell'ambito del suo arricchimento.

Course delivery
The module will be composed by 6 lessons (12 hours). The first part of the module will be devoted to the analisys of significant cases of study. The second part of the module will be devoted to a collaborative discussion of chosen lexicographic and linguistic resources.
Il modulo avrà durata di 12 ore (6 lezioni). La prima parte delle lezioni saranno tenute con l'ausilio di slide e la presentazione di risorse commentate. Una parte delle lezioni avrà carattere interattivo, e si costituirà di una analisi collaborativa di alcune risorse di ambito lessicografico o linguistico.

Learning assessment methods
The exam will have an oral form, with a grade with a range from 18 (passed) to 30 (excellent). The exam will consist of two questions, concerning the resources presented during the lessons and one resource chosen by each student.
L'esame avrà forma orale, con votazione in trentesimi. L'esame si comporrà di due domande, dedicate alle risorse presentate a lezione e a una risorsa a scelta dello studente o studentessa.
